CARD CAPTOR SAKURA
SYAORAN LI
English Name: Li Showron
First Appearance: 7. Sakura's First Challenge as a Thief? (Japanese), 1. Sakura's Rival (American), 7. The Mysterious Painting (British/Canadian)
Syaoran is a distant relative of Clow Read through Clow's mother's side. He has strong magic and uses the compass left by Clow to help him track down the Clow Cards. Thus, he is Sakura Kinomoto's rival. In the beginning, Syaoran never thought much about Sakura for they were competing for the cards. They weren't just rivals for the cards, either, but for love. Both of them loved Yukito Tsukishiro and always fought over him more than the cards. Syaoran also had a fiancée, his cousin, Meiling Li. But he did not love her in the way she wanted him to, rather, he cared for her like he cared for a sister. Besides Meiling, his family included his mother, Ieran Li, and his four older sisters. His father died when he was younger.
Despite his rivalries with Sakura, Syaoran found himself helping her and saving her from time to time, and vice versa. Because of Sakura's nature, he liked her a little more each time. Yue helped Syaoran realize that Syaoran did not love Yukito as he had thought, but was attracted to the enormous power of Yue within Yukito. After that time, Syaoran's blushes changed from Yukito to Sakura, although she never realized it. He was immensely jealous of Eriol Hiiragizawa because he thought they were rivals for Sakura's love. He often fought with Touya Kinomoto because the latter had once said that Syaoran would take away someone he loved: his sister.
Syaoran took many attempts to tell Sakura that he loved her but was always interrupted. After their final battle with Eriol, he told her, but Sakura didn't respond. And then he left for Hong Kong, but not without giving Sakura the bear he made. About four months after, Meiling, along with Tomoyo Daidouji, did all they could to help Sakura tell Syaoran she loved him in return. Their attempts failed but Sakura was finally able to admit it to him in the end and both knew their love would always last.
