DIGIMON
DIGIMON ADVENTURE DEVICES

This section explains some of the devices you'll encounter in the first season of the series.

Digivice
A digivice is what connects a digimon to their human partner. They possess large amounts of power, and are what allow a digimon to evolve. There are different types of digivices. Besides each season of the show having unique digivices, characters often have digivices unique to them. Digivices also correspond to Bandai virtual pet toys.

Each of the eight first season digidestined carry around a digivice that connect them to their digimon partners. This digivice allows their digimon partners can digivolve to the next level in their digivolution. The digivice is used in combination with tags and crests, which allows their partner digimon to digivolve to higher levels.

Tags
Tags are small and are made to be worn as a necklace. By itself, a tag is generally powerless. The purpose of the tags are to harness the power of the crests, which slide into them.

In the first season, the digidestined found their tags (that Devimon hid) in an underwater convenience store on their way to the continent of server.

Crests
Crests are small rectangular-shaped items that slide into the tags. In combination with the tags, crests allow digimon to digivolve to the ultimate level or higher. Each of the digidestined have a crest that they found on the continent of Server.

The crests are also a symbolization of the special traits found within each digidestined. In order for the crest to glow, and therefore work, each digidestined is forced to overcome an obstacle within themselves. In effect, the tags don't simply allow the digimon to evolve, but also make their partners grow stronger.

There are eight main crests: courage, friendship, love, sincerity (purity, in the Japanese version), reliability, knowledge, hope and light.
