Daisuke is a sweet 14-year-old boy who is anything but normal. On his 14th birthday, his first love, Risa rejected him. This rejection reacted with his DNA and transformed him into Dark. Now, whenever Daisuke feels strong emotions connected with love, he transforms into Dark.

All men in the Niwa bloodline share this fate and have the ability to transform into Dark. However, for Daisuke, Dark is the bringer of chaos.

An interesting twist is that even when Daisuke is Dark, he has some control of his mind. From a corner of his mind, Daisuke objects to Dark stealing artwork and some of his other actions. Even though Dark and Daisuke are the same, they are very different. For one, their morals are very different.

Daisuke is a kind hearted young boy. He is sweet and will rush to anyone's aid if need be. Daisuke's heart, however, is a place of confusion. As Daisuke evolves through the series, his love for certain characters grows. And Daisuke not only learns about the people around him, he learns about himself and grows into a stronger character.
