Van
Van is the last king of the Dragons. At a young age, he witnessed the destruction of his home and the death of all those he loved. Since then, Van has stayed to himself and shied away from human contact. He possesses the blood that will awaken the dragon's armor - Escaflowne. Van's blood is that of the dragon. With this blood, he is able to use magic powers to assist him in battle. Van also has the ability to grow white wings, which allow him to fly.
Van meets a young girl named Hitomi. He doesn't know what to make of her and at times, thinks of her as the enemy. However, as he wishes to be left alone and die, Hitomi calls out to him and brings him back. After that turning point, Van and Hitomi are drawn to one another and stay at each other's sides. She is the key to everything he worked so hard to achieve. And now that they've found each other, maybe the future isn't so bad after all.
Folken

Like Van and Folken, Dilandau possesses dragon blood. This allows him to use magic to protect himself, as well as to destroy his enemies.
Allen
Allen leads the Abaharaki against the Black Dragon Clan. He is a powerful swordsman. Even though he does not always see eye to eye with Van, he trust Van and encourages him. On horseback, he fights bravely and with honor. If need be, he'll fight to the death.
