OLD NEWS & UPDATES FROM
JANUARY-AUGUST 2008

Older updates are at the bottom.

2008/08/11---General Update + old Fox Kids vids

Anime Evolution is taking place August 22-24 in Vancouver, British Columbia. (Just to note: there has been a venue change so this year's convention will take place at UBC.) Check it out! Taking place the same weekend on the other side of the country is FanExpo, which you can learn more about here.

Any older YTV fans out there? In honour of YTV's 20th anniversary, they'll be airing retro programming started at 8pm Monday-Saturday night this week. Though the only anime they'll be airing is the first episode of DBZ on Saturday evening. You can look up the schedule at YTV's website.

Randomly: One of the best things about the 'net these days is that all sorts of old advertisements are now easily accessible. On that note, older Digimon fans who remember the FoxKids days may enjoy the following videos. ;3

A mix of various ads

"Digi Bloop That?"

"Soda vs. Pop"

So many memories~

2008/06/19---YTV's Bionix changes

Just a heads up that YTV will be airing a Naruto OVA (I think it's the second one) tomorrow night at 7pm, followed by the first Naruto movie at 8pm. Also in YTV news, there will be a new Bionix timeslot for anime on Saturday nights starting Saturday, July 19th. The release said: YTV's Anime block Bionix will begin in its new timeslot with Avatar. The Anime fun won't doesn't stop there as this new Bionix timeslot will include new episodes of Naruto, Zatch Bell and Bleach.

2008/06/12---Cosplay Picnic

This year's Toronto's Cosplay Picnic info is up. Check it out! :D

Maguri: Sorry I mistook you for a prickly pear, but it's just stupid Maora. ♥
Maora: Oh dear! Don't mistake me for a fruit -- that reminds me of an idiotic blond guy I know of. ♥

2008/06/03---Anime North photos and an announcement

First order of business: My Anime North photos are up! I took over 500 photos for your viewing pleasure. Check'em out! :D

Second order of business: Last Thursday, LELOLA turned eleven years old! :D :D :D Happy Birthday, LELOLA~ ♥

Third order of business: As many of you have noticed, I haven't been updating LELOLA much lately. This site has been on an unofficial hiatus for years, and in the coming months (time permitting), I will be putting it on official hiatus.

Before any of you freak out, please allow me to explain what this is going to mean. :3;;;

Not much is going to change. I have decided not to take this site down. I will be "archiving" it. This basically means I'll be making my hiatus official and permanent. I'll probably slap something on the main banner saying "archive" and put up a message explaining that the site will no longer be updated. I haven't been updating anyway, so there's going to be nothing to miss. I may still update the site from time to time, but updates will no longer be something expected. I may be moving LELOLA into a new folder, so section URLs may change. Nevertheless, LELOLA will still be accessible!

I'm quite likely going to be moving everything under the "COMMUNITY" heading on the left scrollbar to its own website for con photos and the like. Con photos will still be hosted on LELOLA, just on a different website (after all, there are many websites on the network ;3). The Anime North photos I just posted are, what I hope, the last photos posted under the old format. The new photo site should be easier to navigate. I might be deleting some of the older photos/con reports, so if you'd like to save them, please do so now. ;3

The Toronto Cosplay Picnic will finally be getting its own website. Elemental and I have almost sorted out the details of this year's picnic, and I'll update you on them when they become available. :3

The biggest change will be that this news and updates page will either disappear or move. I'm thinking of moving it to where the splash page is currently located, along with a directory listing of all the sites part of LELOLA.net.

I hope this isn't too much of a change. My updates have been dwindling, so I hope this doesn't come as a shock to anyone. Again, LELOLA isn't going anywhere -- it'll still be here. I'm not shutting the site down. It's just going to change a little bit so there's less stress on me, and so that the site better reflects my shifting interests and priorities. I'll still be around working on other projects, so this isn't going to be a goodbye. ;3

So, uh, if any of you were wondering why there's no Splash Image Contest this year, that's why. :3;;

2008/05/22---Anime North~

I'm off to Anime North for the weekend. :D (If you're in the Toronto area, check it out!) I'll be cosplaying as Haydée from Gankutsuou on Friday, Van from Escaflowne on Saturday, and Gengar from Pokémon on Sunday. If you spot me, feel free to poke me and say hi or yell at me for not updating =P. I don't bite, I swear. ;3

2008/04/28---YT: AE footage + poke-election

While LELOLA was out, I uploaded some of my footage from Anime Evolution 2006 to YouTube. The clips are from a panel with voice actors Brad Swaile and Keith Miller from Monday of the convention.

Quatre's seiyuu & acting
Brad Swaile discusses discovering that Quatre's Japanese voice actor is female. Also, he asks: "How many actors does it take to screw in a lightbulb?"

Manga and Hikaru no Go
Keith Miller and Brad Swaile talk about manga and Hikaru no Go.

What's it like being a voice actor?
Keith Miller and Brad Swaile on being voice actors: "It's like being Ozzy Osbourne mixed in with a little bit of Scott McNeil."

Carrot Top & Pauly Shore
Keith Miller and Brad Swaile answer the question: "In a movie based on your life, who would you want to play you?" Simpsons reference, FTW!

Keith and Brad's "free time"
Keith Miller and Brad Swaile talk about what they do in their free time.

Is it weird to watch your own stuff?
Keith Miller and Brad Swaile answer the question: "Is it weird to watch your own stuff?"

On a YouTube-related note, if you're familiar with Pokémon and the upcoming presidential election, you might enjoy this wonderful piece of Obama campaign propaganda:

Dexter: Rattata -- the rat pokémon. It salvages for food and it often steals food from stupid pokémon trainers.
Ash: Stupid pokémon trainers...!?

2008/04/24---We're back~

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back to LELOLA! We just went through a couple months of very unstable hosting, so the site kept going down. Moreover, I was locked out of the FTP meaning I couldn't update. D: In the past week, I've moved LELOLA to a shiny new server, which will hopefully solve LELOLA's hosting woes. In other words: We're back online, baby! :D :D :D

If you're curious, you can read about what happened here. Just note that I have found new hosting. ;3 Everything should theoretically be back online. I hope there are no errors anywhere. :3;;;

And now for a long overdue update...

My photos from Ohayocon 2008 are up! I took over 800 photos -- most of which are of shiny shiny cosplayers~ Check'em out! :D

Also, the new pic of the moment (yeah, I'm officially given up on the weekly pic updates... >____>) is up. It features Hitomi from Escaflowne. :3 A new quote of the moment is also up. Considering the downtime LELOLA just faced, I figured it was fitting. ;3

2008/01/19---Happy New Year!

  • Happy New Year! :D Last year I didn't even get to accomplish a fraction of what I wanted to do for the site. Because of life, I updated LELOLA more infrequently than ever before. I'm hoping that 2008 is much better than 2007, as far as LELOLA is concerned. I'm sure that many of you have noticed that this site is currently in "limbo". I'm not too sure what to do with it since I am spread thin, my interests are focused elsewhere and thanks to sites like wikipedia, sites like LELOLA are well past their prime. Regardless, I hope that this year I will be able to do something definite with this space without sacrificing what currently exists. ;3

  • And I hope I can get a chance to check my e-mail... if you've e-mailed me since last May, I probably owe you a reply. >____<; This is inexcusable.

  • On a happier note, my photos from DTAC are finally up. Check'em out!

  • Earlier this year, I randomly attended Ohayocon in Columbus, Ohio. I was only there for Friday and Saturday, but I took a truckload of photos, which I hope to have online sooner than later.

Ohayocon was my first American anime convention, and, to tell the truth, it wasn't all that different from a Canadian anime convention. :3;; It was pretty fun for me to go, especially since I missed FanExpo last year and hadn't been to large convention since Anime North.

Ohayocon was smaller than Anime North, and it reminded me of what Anime North was like a couple of years ago. Except Ohayocon also had a food court smack in the middle of it, which was awesome because a) food and conventions usually mix, and b) there were cosplayers and "normal" people eating together at all times. XD On a personal note, I got to experience being anonymous at an anime convention for the first time in years. And I loved all the colorful costumes. *_________* I have so much admiration and respect for cosplayers.

Anyway, I'll try to have my photos up ASAP. :D

  • Just in case you haven't heard of it already, there's a live-action Dragonball movie currently in production. The cast list can be found here. If you're interested, there's a blog set up to follow news on the film. Check it out! ;3

  • The Anime North Valentine's Day dance is taking a different form this year. You can learn about it here.

  • For the first time in ages, I have a new pic and quote of the whenever I get around to it week up. The pic is of Fai from Tsubasa. The lyrics on the pic are copyright Cobra Starship (sorry, it's not Snakes on a Plane XD). I felt they fit his character. The quote is from Naruto:

    "A person's jutsu isn't his only weapon."
    - Shikamaru, Naruto

    Till next time...
