OLD NEWS & UPDATES FROM
JULY 2006

Older updates are at the bottom.

2006/07/31---In the news...

According to Anime Insider, come this fall, Jetix will no longer be aired on ABC Family. However, the programming block will remain with Toon Disney.

ANN has posted the schedule for Cartoon Network's all-anime night taking place on August 5. You can see the schedule here.

Also in the news, the trailer for the upcoming third Naruto movie is out on the Japanese WB site. If you're interested in seeing it, it's currently the third trailer down on this page (under Kamen Rider Kabuto). The film opens on August 5th in Japan. You can see the official website for the film here.

Lastly, apparently, YTV aired a new episode of Naruto (episode 38) last Friday. I had no idea they would, and ironically, my VCR wasn't set, so I missed it. I'll review the episode when I get my hands on it.

2006/07/30---Cosplay Picnic was a success!

The new pic and quote of the week are up. The pic features Sorata from X. The words on the pic don't exactly match him, but they fit they image and mood. It's a little weird, but I hope you like it anyway. ^^;

The quote of the week comes from episode 107 of DragonBall Z. It's from when Trunks first appears. Krillin says it as he watches Goku and Trunks interact.

"Talking's not bad. It's a lot better than fighting."
-Krillin, DragonBall Z

In other news, the cosplay picnic yesterday was a huge success! Over a hundred people showed up at Centre Island during the afternoon. Except for a twenty minute thundershower at the end of the day, the weather was great. There were lots of photos taken and general picnic fun had all around.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended! You made the event a success, and more importantly, you made it memorable! *luffles you all*

Also, a huge thank you to Amanda for organizing the event! You rock!

I cannot wait for next year! :3

2006/07/28---Cosplay Picnic reminder

Just a reminder that the Toronto Cosplay Picnic takes place tomorrow. If you're in the GTA, be sure to check it out. :3

On a happy note, it looks like it will be sunny tomorrow. *knocks on wood* Here's hoping for no rain. If the weather is bad, I will post here in the morning letting you know whether or not we're using the raindate. Otherwise, assume it's a go. :D

I hope to see a lot of you tomorrow~

2006/07/27---NAF photos up

My embarrassingly small collection of photos from last weekend's Northern Anime Festival are up. Check it out!

Sorry there are so few. I was only at the convention for a couple of hours. ^^;

2006/07/25---PoT on hiatus; Bleach dub cast

ComiPress reports that Takeshi Konomi, the mangaka of Prince of Tennis, is currently sick. Because of this, the manga will be put on hiatus.

Also in the news, at Comic-Con this weekend, the dub cast for Bleach was announced. Ichigo will be voiced by ex-Power Ranger Johnny Yong Bosch (of the Vash from Trigun fame). Personally, I'm entertained by their choices for Ishida (Derek Stephen Prince) and Tatsuki (Wendee Lee), but I'm like that about almost all previous Digimon voice actors. ^^; Anyway, the list is up here, if you're interested.

"Boys can be so pathetic."

2006/07/24---Eureka Seven on YTV

Zannen, Canada reports that YTV will be airing Eureka Seven this fall, and that Eureka Seven, Bleach and Invader Zim will be aired during Bionix. Also, YTV has denied that they have the airing rights to Gundam Seed Destiny.

Correction: I made a mistake in my update on the 18th. Bleach will premiere on September 9th at 11:30pm Cartoon Network. At 12:00am midnight, Cartoon Network will be premiering Trinity Blood. Sorry for any confusion!

2006/07/23---Nature's chance

The new pic and quote of the week are up. The pic of the week was made from a gorgeous 2004 calendar image of Mitsuki from Full Moon wo Sagashite. The words on the pic are a quote from John Updike that I rather like. I think they fit Mitsuki rather well.

I've also made a matching wallpaper. I hope you like it. :3

800x600 | 1024x768

The quote of the week comes from the first season of Digimon. It's an amusing Joe quote.

"Why am I talking to myself? Worse, why am I talking to myself and answering?"

If you like Pokémon and want to know a little something about the new dub, you might want to check this out.

Also, just a reminder that the Northern Anime Festival will be held tomorrow at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. You can find more information here.

2006/07/20---Powerpuff Girls Z

The San Francisco Chronicle has posted an article on "Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z", the Japanese version of Cartoon Network's Powerpuff Girls. This series was announced over a year ago, but is finally seeing the light of day. You can see the article, complete with images and links here.

2006/07/18---CN airing Trinity Blood, live-action Conan & GX manga

Bleach will premiere on September 9th at 11:00pm Cartoon Network. At 11:30pm, Cartoon Network will be premiering Trinity Blood.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Detective Conan, there's a live-action version of the series in the works. It will star Shun Oguri as Shinichi Kudo (he recently played Rui in the live-action Hana Yori Dango series), Tomoko Kurokawa as Ran Mori, and Takanori Jinnai as Kogoro Mori. The live-action series will be a prequel, and is set to air this fall on YTV (the Japanese station, Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation). Thanks to Zannen, Canada for this bit of news.

Also in the news, according to ANN, the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX manga will be printed in the English version of Shonen Jump starting in January.

2006/07/16---Raison d'etre

The new pic and quote of the week are up. The pic is a scan from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga artbook, and features Ed, Al, Roy and Risa. The image is pretty self-explanatory. It's more fitting for the manga (which is really good, by the way), but it works for the anime too.

The quote of the week comes from episode 15 of Naruto. It's a great quote, and I think it fits nicely with the pic.

"I'm not going to die here. I have a dream to be the greatest hokage."
-Naruto, Naruto

2006/07/15---Splash Image Contest Results

The results of this year's splash image contest are up!

This year, we received fewer entries, but the quality of the entries went up a great deal. Although this made the contest rather difficult to judge, there was a clear winner.

Congratulations, Nite Phire! You've won this year's splash image contest! Your winning entry is now the splash image for LELOLA. :3

There are also two honorable mentions, and a handful judges choice awards, which you can see, along with all the other shiny entries received, on the main contest page. Check it out! X3

Thank you to all who entered! Even if your entry didn't win, I can tell how much work went into each entry. I cannot thank you enough for putting that kind of time and energy into this contest. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Congratulations again to the winners, and Happy 9th Birthday, LELOLA!

Izzy: If we had a compass, we'd know which way north was.
Tentomon: I know where North is!
Izzy: Where?
Tentomon: It's the opposite of south!

2006/07/14---Bleach on YTV, ToonamiJetstream launched

Zannen, Canada has reported that YTV has confirmed that they will be airing Bleach. :D I'm expecting something similar to how Naruto was handled last fall. (Also, it's not anime, but YTV will be airing Invader Zim. All I can say is finally. X3)

Also, some older news from Zannen, Canada: At Anime Expo, Bandai confirmed Gundam Seed Destiny will be airing on YTV. In addition, the new Canadian channel, RAZOR, is airing anime. This includes series like Trinity Blood and Samurai 7. Jesse has the schedule up on his site. Check it out!

In other news, ToonamiJetstream is up and running a day early. They have the first dubbed episodes of Prince of Tennis (they changed the opening and endings, and it has new music), Hikaru no Go up and MAR up, as well as a few others. Sadly, they are only available to people with internet connections originating in the United States. :/

First off, this Saturday, to celebrate the launch of ToonamiJetstream.com, Cartoon Network will air six recent Naruto episodes back-to-back starting at 7pm.

Also, we finally have a date for when Bleach will premiere on Cartoon Network. The first episode of Bleach will air on Cartoon Network on September 9th.

In the news, some ex-FUNimation executives have formed a new a company called "Illumitoon". Illumitoon has already licensed Toei's "Beet the Vandel Buster" and plans to have DVDs out early next year. More information can be found here.

Also in the news, ICv2's new anime issue will publish a list of who they think are the ten most powerful people in the American anime industry. Topping the list is head of FUNimation, Gen Fukunaga. You can see who else is listed here. The article also lists their top ten anime and manga properties.

2006/07/11---Gackt & HYDE

On a semi-related note, ANN has posted an interview they got with HYDE. Check it out!

2006/07/10---New Negima season

Animaxis reports that a new season of the popular anime Mahou Sensei Negima! will be airing this fall. The new season will apparently be called "Negi!?". You can see the article on it here.

In other news: The University of California, Irvine Extension program is offering a class about Japanese anime. It deals with Japanese comic books, manga, animation and much more. I was sent the press release a few weeks ago and forgot it until I found it today. ^^; ANN posted it awhile back, so you can see it here.

2006/07/09---Take it a day at a time

The new pic and quote of the week are up. The pic features Fay from the Tsubasa manga. It's a lovely image of him. I didn't do much to the picture because I liked the original so much. :3 The words on the pic are a remedy to reduce stress. Instead of panicking, it's always a good idea to take a moment to relax. It's better to work at a slower pace than at a crazy one.

The quote of the week comes from episode three of Pretear. Sasame says it to Himeno. I know it's very similar to a Sasame quote I used before, but I really like it, and the meaning behind it. I think it's something that we can all take inspiration from. After all, no one is good at something the first time they try.

"Just because you can't do something right away doesn't mean you're not suited for it. Have more confidence in yourself."
-Sasame, Pretear

Just to let you know, I have been around the last few weeks. I've just been putting my energy into overhauling the Digimon section. The section is a huge mess of over 4000 badly organized files. I'm slowly reorganizing, re-writing and re-coding the entire section.

I haven't uploaded any of the new versions of the section yet, but I will be shortly. With this clean up, I will be removing a lot of content. Some content will be removed because it was created by me seven years ago and makes my eyes bleed. The majority of stuff I'll be removing is stuff I didn't create.

Way back when LELOLA was young, and the Digimon fandom was in its infancy, I was still learning how to make a website. There was a period of time, when due to a lack of source materials and an inability to make my own images, I took them from various other sources. Needless to say, a lot has changed over the years. I'm now obsessive about giving credit where credit is due, and I don't like using images (or content) that I didn't create myself.

In the Digimon section, there are quite a few images that date back to that time. Moreover, even though I have permission to use many of the images by the people who created them, I don't think it's a good thing that the Digimon gallery, for example, reproduces other galleries, like Megchan's. Therefore, soon I will be removing most of the images in my Digimon gallery.

Furthermore, a lot of the icons in the Digimon icons section were taken from Japanese websites. This is not cool. Yes, I made many of the icons in that section, and many were submitted, but on retrospect, the icon section should have never existed. It will probably be deleted.

My updates will be changing every single page of the Digimon section. I can't leave it in the state it is in now. It's full of typos, sentences that make no sense, and sparse information. For the most part, I'm literally "cleaning up" the section. I'm re-coding the old HTML, fixing some of the graphics, and re-writing a lot of the information. In many cases, I'm adding more information, so that the section actually acts as a section.

I'm telling you all this because I know many of you like the Digimon sections as it is now. So, I guess you can say this is a warning. I'm not finished my cleaning, so I won't start upgrading the section for at least a week. If you want to save any part of the Digimon section in its present form, I suggest doing so now. ;D

After I get this out of the way, I will be able to actually update the Digimon section. It looks like the section will be staying centered on the first two seasons though. My memory of Tamers is fuzzy, I still haven't watched past the sixth episode of Frontier, and I have yet to watch a single episode of Savers. <---fails at life

But there is new Digimon content on its way! Once I get this overhaul out of the way, I have some shiny Digimon things to add. :3

On a related note, I will be deleting the DragonBall Z section. For the most part, it's older than the Digimon section. The content is inaccurate, badly written, and incomplete. Don't get me wrong. I still love DragonBall Z. It's a series I grew up with and it will always be special to me. It's the section that sucks. One day, in the distant future, if I decide to re-watch the series in its long and winding glory, I will recreate the section.

As for right now, it needs to go. It's something I need to do. I will delete it in a week. If you want to backup any part of the DragonBall Z section, I suggest doing so now.

Please don't think of these changes as a bad thing. These upcoming updates will be the last of the overhaul I started over a year ago. I've wanted to get this over with so I could finally feel comfortable adding new content. I've been so bogged down with old sections that I haven't been able to focus on creating new ones.

Anyway, I'm sorry about the mess. Please bear with me and these renovations over the next few weeks.

On a different (and happier?) note, the results of this year's splash image contest will be up this week.

Till next time...

2006/07/06---CLAMP @ AX

CLAMP appeared at last weekend's Anime Expo. Their press conference and fan panel revealed a lot of interesting tidbits about the mangaka. While this technically isn't news, I figured a lot of CLAMP fans out there would enjoy this. ^^

There's a transcript of the CLAMP press conference at Anime Expo up here. Chibi Yuuto over on LJ has made a list of highlights from it, which you can see here.

Apparently, over 5000 fans attended the CLAMP fan panel at the convention. Recording wasn't allowed, but some fans have pieced together what was said from memory. Chibi Yuuto has made a post here. :3

Moreover, Kevin Lillard has a report from the CLAMP panel up at his website, A Fan's View. Check it out!

2006/07/04---Anime Expo news

ANN has posted a list of the anime and manga licenses announced/confirmed at Anime Expo this past weekend. You can see the list here.

Also relating to Anime Expo, theOtaku.com reported the following from Viz's panel: Viz's reps also reiterated the fact that new dubbing work was done for the uncut & bilingual Naruto box sets, so that the English-language dialogue would match the Japanese version more precisely. Additionally, it seems that those waiting for DVDs of the Jetstream exclusive anime (Prince of Tennis and MAR) should probably expect them to come out next year. That's a little less official than the other news, though, so we'll see whether or not it holds true.

2006/07/02---Wish upon a star

The new pic and quote of the week are up. The pic features a manga image of Sakura from Card Captor Sakura. The words on the pic are a children's saying I heard growing up. :3

The quote of the week comes from the first volume of the Ouran Koukou Host Club manga. I'm pretty sure the same thing is mentioned in the anime though. The quote basically says that true beauty comes from within, and that no matter how beautiful you are on the outside, it's what's inside that counts.

"It's no good if you only look good on the outside."
-Tamaki, Ouran Koukou Host Club

Just a reminder that the splash image contest ends tomorrow at noon. This is your last chance to enter! ^^
