PAN-CHAN'S REVIEWS
NARUTO
DUB EPISODE 3 -- "Sasuke and Sakura: Friends or Foes?"
The following is my review for the third English dubbed episode of Naruto.
The episode title was changed just slightly for this episode from "Rivals! Sakura and Sasuke".
This episode was a good introduction to the Sakura/Ino rivalry. And, you know, it's not until you start re-watching this series that you notice how many of the background characters in the first few episodes turn into important characters later on. ^^;
We already knew this, but they cut out Naruto and Sasuke's kiss, but still left it implied and added more gagging noises. Ah. How I love the way they cater to a Western audience. It also makes me wonder if they're going to keep editing it out, since it appears in every single flashback Naruto and Sasuke have. It also appears in one of the future openings.
"Team 7" is now "Squad 7". *shrugs* It works.
The way they pronounce "Sasuke" sounds more like "SauceGAY". (It should be "Sasuke", like "Sa--sue-keh" with the "sue-keh" coming together to make almost a single sound.)
Shikamaru's voice is decent. He "hmph"s well.
Hinata's voice is also a good fit. It sounds a tad awkward, but it's like that in the Japanese version too and has a lot to do with representing her timid personality.
I'm still having problems with the Third's voice.
Sasuke's voice also sounds rather bland and a tad forced. Yes, he has angsty issues that make him unemotional, but he's not that unemotional. :/ On the plus side, the voice actor has hundreds of episodes to get used to the voice.
Still not sure what to make of Kakashi's voice. We'll have to wait for the next episode.
I'm not even going to try and pretend that I like lovesick!Sakura.
No matter what the language, parts of this episode are hilarious. For some reason, I found a lot of the dialogue in the second half of the episode even more amusing in English. "You have such a large forehead. It makes me want to kiss it." This stuff is gold! XD
Conclusion: Milk is evil.
