PAN-CHAN'S REVIEWS
NARUTO
DUB EPISODES 8 & 9 -- "The Oath of Pain" & "Kakashi: Sharingan Warrior"
The following is my review for the eighth and ninth English dubbed episode of Naruto.
Like a truckload of other people, I first watched Naruto fansubbed. Therefore I had the ability to fast-forward the flashbacks at the beginning of episodes, so I never really noticed just how much of some episodes are flashbacks. The five minutes of both these episodes was nothing but flashbacks. Moreover, episode 8 was filled with flashbacks from previous episodes and episode 9 had flashbacks from the same episode. Gah. I suppose it's helpful when you only get a single episode a week, but as YTV aired two back-to-back episodes, it was annoying to sit through. ^^;; (Maybe I say that because I've seen it a bunch of times already?)
I would like to take a moment to say how much I like the Demon Wind Shuriken in this episode. It never ever shows up again, but it's one heck of an awesome weapon. X3
I love how Naruto and Sasuke execute their plan in these episodes. They really do make a good team. Also, much love to the way Kakashi deals with Naruto's frustration at the end of episode 9.
They cut out the blood Sasuke spits out when Zabuza attacks him. However, they left in the blood on Kakashi's hand when he's fighting with Zabuza and cut out the blood from the kunai wounds Kakashi inflicts on Zabuza at the end of episode 9. The pattern seems to be to edit out blood happening to the "children". If an adult is bleeding or stabbed, that's fine, but for the kids, it cuts cut out.
They left the hand seals pronounced in Japanese! I wasn't expecting that, but I guess naming animals would be a tad cheesy or something like that. ^^; Mind you, in an earlier episode, Sakura referred to a hand seal by its English translation.
Haku's voice sounds good so far. It actually reminds me a lot of his Japanese voice -- young and androgynous. Fwee~
Ads for the Naruto manga have been airing on YTV, and someone was smart when they put them during Naruto itself. Ten points to them.
"Believe it" Count: 4 (in episode 8) and 4 (in episode 9 if you count Naruto's "can't believe it")
