WEISS KREUZ
GERMAN

The German influence on Weiss Kreuz is fairly large. Much of this comes from Takehito Koyasu's fascination with the language. Each of the episodes were given German titles as well as Japanese ones. Moreover, not only are the names of many of the characters German, but the series itself has a German title. Here's a small guide to some of the German used in the series.

OTHER NOTES

"Weiss Kreuz" is really written "Weiß Kreuz". I write it Weiss Kreuz for simplicity sake. The "ß" in German is equivalent to "ss". It's a sharp "s" sound.

Remember, "Weiss Kreuz" is pronounced "vice kroyts". "Weiss" rhymes with "mice", and "kreuz" is like "cr-oi-t-s".

Also, Estet is pretty much the "ß" sound. It's called "SS" in some versions of the series.

There are alternative spellings to many of these words. Many of these come from the fansubs and multiple translations of the series. Many of the Japanese seiyuu have trouble tackling the German words properly. The fact that the Japanese merchandise keeps spelling things inconsistently doesn't help. For LELOLA, I just used the spellings I'm most familiar and comfortable with. You can spell many names differently. For example, if you really like spelling "Youji" with a "h" so it's "Yohji", that's in no way wrong.

* Episode 24 and 25 of Weiss Kreuz are usually put together to make episode 24 "Ende des Weiß".
