DIGIMON

Digimon is a popular Japanese franchise loosely based off of Bandai's "Digital Monsters" digital pets released in 1997. In the years that followed, Digimon spawned into manga series, a multiple popular anime series, video games, card games, and more merchandise than you can shake a stick at.

The Digimon section is one of the oldest and most popular of LELOLA. Most of it was created when the English dub was first airing on North American television for the first time. This section doesn't claim to be comprehensive, nor does it claim to be the most accurate Digimon website in existence. Instead, it exists to act as a time capsule of that time when Digimon captured the hearts, minds, and most of all, the imaginations of a generation. Today, Digimon continues to flourish. Maybe this section will give you some clue as to how a show about digital monsters came to mean so much more to so many people, and how it continues to inspire its fans to this very day.

Although this section touches many Digimon-related topics, its mainly focuses is on the first two anime seasons.

To date, there are five Digimon anime seasons:

Digimon Adventure

This was the first Digimon season. It aired from March 7, 1999 to March 26, 2000 in Japan. Before the Japanese run was completed, the series was dubbed into English by Saban Entertainment. The English dub aired from August 14, 1999 to June 24, 2000 in the United States on the now defunct FoxKids.

In this series, seven children at summer camp are transported to the Digital World, where they meet their digimon partners. Now knowing why they've been transported there, the seven children explore the Digital World. In the process, make friends, face dangerous enemies, and learn of their identities as chosen children who are destined to save not only the Digital World, but the real world as well. Along their journey, they learn more about themselves too -- what it means to be a friend and the complexities of human emotion.

Digimon Adventure 02

Digimon Adventure 02 was a sequel of Digimon Adventure, picking up three years from where the last season left off. The series premiered April 2, 2000 in Japan and aired until March 18, 2001. The series was brought over to North America in the September of 2000.

This season introduces new characters, but still features the original chosen children from the first season. In this series, the Digital World is being taken over by the Digimon Emperor. However, there is more to this story than meets the eye as another epic battle for the Digital World is brewing.

Digimon Tamers

Digimon Tamers premiered in the spring of 2001 in Japan, and was brought over to North America in the September of the same year. Tamers was the first spin-off anime. Although it shares many similarities to the first two seasons, it is a stand alone season, with all new characters and a new storyline.

In the real world, the Digimon card game is all the rage. Digimon are fiction, or so is the belief until real digimon come from the Digital World and enter the lives of a few chosen children. But there's trouble in paradise. Dangerous digimon begin attacking the real world, secret organizations work in mysterious ways in the background, and the fate of the world is in the hands of the children and their digimon partners.

Digimon Frontier

Digimon Frontier began airing in the spring of 2002 in Japan. Like the seasons before it, was brought over to North America for the fall season of the same year. Like Tamers, Frontier was completely stand-alone from previous seasons with an all new cast. Five children are summoned to the Digital World to fight the evil and destructive Cherubimon.

Frontier also came with a new concept. Instead of having the digimon evolve, it is the children themselves that, by locating their "spirits", evolve into digimon.

Digimon Savers

After Frontier, the Digimon anime was presumed over, but three years after Frontier ended, in the spring of 2006, Digimon Savers was announced. The series is currently airing in Japan, so information is forthcoming.
