POLICY
Here you will find my policy for a variety of LELOLA-related subjects. If you want to use something found on this website, please read on.
PLEASE NOTE: Everything on this site is free for personal use.
There is no need to ask about whether or not you can use LELOLA's files for your own personal use. For instance, you are free to save and print out whatever you want from this website. ^^
Images
I am often asked if other people can use the images on LELOLA. The answer, most of the time, is yes. However, there are some exceptions and things to think about.
As for my images, let me make it clear that I do not hold the copyright to the images on LELOLA. As I mentioned in the site's disclaimer: Many graphics were made from copyrighted images. I do not claim that these images are my own. My modifications to them do create an original work, however, I acknowledge the fact that I am editing the works of their original creators. For example, I use copyrighted images to make the pictures of the week. The new images I make are not "mine", for they were made from copyrighted material that is in no way, shape, or form my property.
I know I don't have permission from the copyright holders. That being said, there's such a thing as internet etiquette.
It doesn't look good to go around and use other people's images without their permission (often referred to as "stealing"). If an image has a LELOLA logo on it, it was most likely made by me. As of early 2004, I've cut back on watermarking (putting a logo on) my images. This means that screencaps, scans and other images no longer have the watermark. This doesn't mean I didn't spent time on them.
Making images takes time. Scanning artbooks and merchandise takes a lot of time and effort. Every image needs to be edited after it is scanned. Moreover, scanning books has a habit of ruining their spins. Screencaps also take time and effort. Even with shortcut programs, it takes me hours and hours to make screencaps, edit them, re-save them, upload them and code the pages for them.
Long story short: It takes a lot of work to provide the visitors of this site with images. This is why it's customary to credit those who provided one with images.
I have no way to force you to credit me for my images, but I can ask you do.
I do have a problem with people taking my images and claiming they're their own. Many people even go so far as to remove the "LELOLA" logos. Lying like this doesn't look good on the person doing it. It's really easy for me to tell if an image is from LELOLA. It's also easy for other people to spot this. Claiming you made my images will only end up making you look like a lying fool and will quite possibly get you attacked online. Please try to avoid this by not claiming they're yours in the first place.
I also have a problem with direct linking. If you don't know what direct linking is: If you link an image (or file) that you are not hosting on your own webspace, you're direct linking. Many people direct link images on message boards, in blogs, for signatures and avatars, and on their websites.
Direct linking is an issue because it drains a site's bandwidth. Sites with too much of a bandwidth drain have to block people from direct linking their images. Furthermore, bandwidth costs a lot, which is why some sites with a bandwidth drain are forced to shut down.
In a nutshell: Don't direct link my images! If you want to use my images on your website, upload them to your own server space. If you still don't understand, please don't use any of my images.
Also, I ask that you don't take every image from one of my galleries to make your own gallery. That's really unoriginal and it would be easier just to link to my gallery, ne?
Furthermore, if I credit the image to someone else or some other website, you need to ask them for permission, not me.
There are some sections of LELOLA where I ask you to take images and post them (such as the Hentai Free section and the Digimon Forever Project). In these sections, you are free to use the images. Just don't claim they are your own and please don't direct link them!
There are also some sections of LELOLA where I ask that my images not to be used and distributed. This is exactly as it sounds. I ask that you DON'T use these images.
Again, I can't demand you to credit me for my images, but I can ask. If you're feeling really generous, linking back to LELOLA is nice, and using a button is even nicer. ^^
Information
Unlike images, information is looked at differently under the law. While I may not own what I'm talking about, I own my words talking about it. Taking someone else's words is called plagiarism, which if they haven't already told you in school, is a serious offense.
That being said, there are some things I (ironically) did not write on this website. I try to make sure they are all credited to their source. If you see something, whether it be a news report, or some information, credited to someone else, it is not my writing. You may want to seek permission from the original source of the information. Moreover, there is some information that is obvious and therefore doesn't need to be credited. For example, the fact that Yugi's last name from Yu-Gi-Oh! is "Mutou" falls into the category of public knowledge. No credit needs to be given for items like this.
If you want to use information found on LELOLA, there are a few things I ask.
The first is that you give credit where credit is due. If you wrote something and I used it, you'd probably like it if I credited you. I ask that you show me the same respect.
Please don't copy and paste sections of this website. If you want other people to see my information so badly, just link them to it. Besides, it's annoying to go to Google and find ten sites that have taken your text word for word.
If you're going to use my information, don't use a large amount. Taking the entire Digimon section's information would annoy me.
If you're going to paraphrase what I've written, don't make it look like my information with a few words switched around here and there and then claim it to be your own.
This isn't school. I'm not going to demand that you cite me properly. Just a simple link and the words "information is from LELOLA" will be more than enough.
Submissions
This one is very simple. People sent their submissions to LELOLA. It's not fair to them if you use their submissions without their permission. Therefore, I ask that you don't use other people's submissions.
Layout
Three simple words: Don't use it!
To avoid any problems, I'd like to ask that you stay away very far from my coding. People that have used it in the past have ended up attacked, and I don't like seeing people hurt.
Commercial Use
Contact me with any questions you may have regarding this issue.
Personal Note
Please don't try to be me or imitate me. Moreover, don't try to make your website a version of LELOLA. This has happened quite a few times in the past and none of the situations has turned out well. It also ended up dragging me into messes I wanted no part of. If you're going to run a website, run your website -- something that is truly and uniquely yours. ^_~
