After watching Saiyuki and laughing at it's horribly bad-ness, four of us got it into our heads that it would be a good idea to dress as the four main characters.

Goku suits me very well (I'm short, loud, eat more than most people, etc.) so I set to work making a Goku costume.
It's made of a nice strong material. I bought and severely edited a white shirt to make the base of the top. Then I made all the other pieces, which took much longer than I originally planned.
This costume was hard since most of it doesn't exist in real life. If you look at the official character designs, they have a note on them saying how it's impossible for the costume to exist in real life. ><; Moreover, it was a task to figure out how to make it so I could take it off and put it on.
It's made of layers that are velcroed together. This way, I can get it on and of and have it look good. ^^
I couldn't find two matching brown belts, so I made them instead. ^^ The crown and the leg-things are made out of layers of cardboard that were carefully cut and glued together. The result after a paint job were extremely strong and accurate accessories. ^^
The staff was made out of a long rounded piece of wood I found behind the boiler (don't ask) and spray painted red. The gold detail on the ends of the staff are made out of foam golfballs and newspaper that I attached and then painted gold. ^^ Yay for creativity!
The wig is a weird "mullet" one I found at a local costume shop. Surprisingly, after minimum trimming, it worked out perfectly. It's big and spiky just like Goku's. ^^

This costume was a huge hit. Along with Blue Rose (Sanzo), Rem (Hakkai), and Goyjo (Aggie), we made an excellent Saiyuki group. I can't even count how many timse our picture was taken. ^^ At one point, I counted thirteen flashbulbs. Wow.

I was interviewed on YTV about cosplaying while wearing this costume, so many people associate this costume with me. ^^ I love my Goku costume soooo much!
Blue Rose and I wore our Sanzo and Goku costumes to Nimbus 2003--a Harry Potter convention. It was entertaining since we stuck out so much. ^^;;; To make up for it, we ran around with signs reading "We come in in Book 6!" and "Oops. Wrong Fandom." ^^;
