I never really intended to make this costume. I was at Wal-Mart looks for supplies for my Kadsuki costume when I found his sunglasses. Then I found a large white turtleneck, and one thing lead to anther, and the next thing I knew, I was making his costume. ^^;
_________In Progress
The turtleneck was the hardest part. It was based on a large turtleneck I bought at Wal-Mart, but by the end of it, only the collar of the original shirt was kept. The purple part of the shirt was hand-sewn since it looked weird after I tried to sew it with the sewing machine.
I tried to make the cut part at the bottom of the shirt as accurate as possible on both the front and back. I used no-fray to keep it from fraying after the correct cuts were made, so the shirt looks and feels just like it came out of Mugenjou. ^^
The gloves are a pair I found for a dollar and cut accordingly. As for the silver pieces, they were made from layers of cardboard put together and then painted. They're surprisingly strong and authentic feeling. ^^ After some detail work, I added the silver pieces to the shirt and to the gloves.
The wig is the same one I used for Kadsuki. It's such a nice multipurpose wig. As for his "needles", I used chopsticks. ^^;
I guess I do look like Juubei when I wear the costume, but I don't make a good Juubei. I'm so short. ><;
Some stuff about the November 2003 photoshoot below...
_________Images
Some of these images suck, but hey, we're new at this. ^^; These are the best ones out of the over two hundred photos taken that day.
All of these photos were taken downtown Toronto at the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto between classes one Tuesday afternoon. Why? Because we can and have lots of self-confidence to burn. ^^
A big huge THANK YOU to Shinji for taking time out of his schedule and being our wonderful and talented photographer. *glomps*
Kadsuki was played by the adorable Sakura.
The craptacular Juubei was played by yours truly. Let's all pretend that I didn't forget my Juubei shoes at home that day, k? ><; I'm meant to play Himiko; not Juubei.
Actually, considdering I'm only 5'0", this worked out well. I'm lucky Kadsuki is 4'9". Fear our short-ness powers!
Some info about the sets:
[SET ONE] This set was the first one we did and more of an experiment than anything else. ><; Taken at University College. We terrorized a group of students writing exams. They could see us in the hallway and gave us such happy looks.
[SET TWO] Taken in the University College courtyard around lunch time. We managed to gather an audience. ><;;;
[SET THREE] Again, at University College. This time, outside by the cafe. The dungeon looking hallway is really the way to the Pol Sci offices. *heh*
[SET FOUR] Taken outside the Trinty College library. Would have worked better if it wasn't raining outside. Oh, and have I mentioned how cold it was? Oh well. It was really funny when someone remarked to Shini how lucky he was to be taking photos of such pretty girls. *snicker*
[SET FIVE] I love this wall. It's so perdy! ^^ It's in the basement of Isabel Bader Theatre. Both Sakura and I have classes there. As a side note, Juubei and Kadsuki hung out in the girl's bathroom there because they could.
[SET SIX] It's the hallway!!! Yeah... most of this set came out rather blurry. ><; Oh well. These were taken in an underground tunnel connecting buildings at Victoria University.
I think that's it.
Umm... hope you enjoyed our weird between-class fun! ^^ We'll do it again sometime.
