My friends Sakura, Hikari Light, Seed-chan, and Kels were doing a Shinshi group lacked a Maora. A few weeks after I read the manga, I took on the challenge.

This costume was challenging for me, who had never made anything like it before. Moreover, we all wanted our costumes to match, which required a lot of coordination.
The shirt took waaaaaaaaaay too long. I started patterning it in December, and I was still struggling with it in May. I based it off a dress skirt I owned, and made a "rough-copy" shirt, on which I drew where the black in-lay would have to go. I cut it to pieces to make a pattern. On the "good copy" the in-lays were a pain to sew.
The puff sleeves took three time-consuming tries to get right. In the end, it was Sakura who came up with a patterned that saved me. Thank you, Sakura! Hikari Light and Seed-chan made everyone in our group bias tape, which I added to the edges of the shirt. After the main shirt was completed, I added cuffs, and little details. I also added a zipper down the front.
The yellow turtle-neck was straight-forward, and the ties for everyone in our group were made by Seed-chan. :3
The skirt is a circle skirt. It was my first time making one, so there's a seam in the back that doesn't need to be there. To give the skirt poof, I was going to make a petticoat, but I ended up using a petticoat skirt from a child's dress that fit me.
I made the socks out of some yellow spandex, and I borrowed the shoes from Sakura.
The wig didn't need much styling. I added two "pigtails" to the wig. The bows on the hair are ribbon I sewed lace to. I sewed them to the wig to keep them from moving.
And I think that's it. It may not sound like much, but this costume took a truckload of time and effort.

I have cosplayed Maora in other outfits, but since I am usually just wearing the wig and store-bought clothing, it wasn't worth making another page for them. Thus, I've added on this little area for "extra" Maora costumes. :3;;
